The Start Of Everything
(Photograph of Misty Copeland)
As a fresh beginner when it comes to ballet, the only person that I knew that had done ballet was my own mother. The concept of ballet has been in my life for the longest whether it’s watching the Nutcracker at a very young age or doing different types of dance styles that were influenced by the movements of ballet. Misty Copeland, one of 1st African American Female Principal Dancers in history, will be the dancer that I chose to blog about. She stands for what she believes, whether it’s on the stage or in her personal life. Creating a change in ballet history of the norm stereotypical ideal of ballet. That anyone has a chance and a voice to be their best self in their dreams of becoming a dancer. And gave me motivation when it came to the thought of doing ballet as an adult. Misty Copeland’s expressions and passion for ballet will influence anyone in the reasons why she is one of the most ideal examples of a principal ballet dancer. As a woman of color to not be defined by anyone that thinks of her in a negative way. By helping future dancers, starting petitions, and contributing to different dance programs. Using four sources: two websites Biography and the official life of Misty Copelan, Dance Magazine: Misty Copeland on Her latest Book, Launching Her Foundation and Motherhood, by Lydia Murray, and a book Life in Motion by Misty Copeland. This blog will go over the life of Misty Copeland in her biographical background, Career history, three interesting facts, and closing off with a conclusion of what will she be reminded for, in future dancers and generations to come. Starting off with Mrs.
Copeland’s biographical background.
