What You Might Not Know About Misty Copeland
(Misty Copeland's book, Publish March 4, 2014)
My knowledge about Misty Copeland is only from what I have seen on her Instagram page, talk shows, and articles about her life online. But going more in depth on little fun facts that a lot of people might not know or find interesting on how she impacted the ballet world. On the website called Biography it states, “In May 2016, Copeland inspired a Barbie doll wearing a costume reminiscent of the one she wore in Firebird. The doll is part of Barbie’s Sheroes program which honors female heroes who break boundaries.” In my opinion I think this is amazing to have a world-famous doll brand acknowledge how you influence the children in this world. And inspiring young girls to want to be a ballet dancer or to get this Barbie doll that was made to honor female role models. The 2nd fun fact about Misty, is that on the website Misty Copeland: discover Misty's journey it elaborates, “Misty is the author of the New York Times Bestselling memoir, Life in Motion, co-written with award-winning journalist and author Charisse Jones, published March 2014.” The book Life in Motion is a book that explains the story of Misty Copeland but her explaining it in her own way and how she felt in her hard times/challenges that she faced in her journey to become a principal dancer. Anyone can take away from this book as a lesson or feel more different in their life in a good way. And you don’t have to be a dancer to understand the emotions and passions that were written in this book. The 3rd and final fun fact is from a book called Life in Motion by Misty Copeland, Chapter 1 page 17 Mrs. Copeland state. “We were still living in Bellflower with Harold, and Mommy entered Chris, Erica, and me into the talent show at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.” When I read that sentence, I couldn’t believe my eyes. When I started high school, my family moved to the city of Bellflower, and I live in a street one block over, where Thomas Jefferson Elementary school is. And I would walk past it on my way to high school, with no knowledge that Misty Copeland stepped foot on those school grounds. Now this essay is closing off with the fun facts about Misty Copeland to the conclusion. Photo:
