The Fight and Flight For A Dream Career

Over the years Mrs. Copeland got the opportunity to play a lot of lead roles and productions when she was between the ages of 13 to 15. In the Biography website it states that in 2007 Misty mastered the rank of ABT soloist. This title helped her be showcased in productions like, “Marius Petipa’s La Bayadere, Alexei Ratmansky’s Firebird and The Nutcracker, and Twyla Tharp’s Sinatra Suite and Bach Partita, among an array of performances lauded by critics. "And from like any amazing athlete, they face a roadblock in their journey. To in Misty Copeland case, she had to face severe injuries long the way. Adding on the website Biography it implies, “At the beginning of her ABT career, having had a delayed onset of puberty, she faced a vertebral fracture that required time off dance and wearing of a brace for practically the entire day. Years later, she had to temporarily stop dancing again to recuperate from stress fracture to her left shin.” But her burning passion for ballet still moved on to build up her strength to keep dancing to this day. Therefore, on the website called Discover Misty’s Journey, she worked with a choreography named Alexei Ratmansky in lead roles like The Nutcracker, and Swan Lake. To eventually get a role during the ABT’s Metropolitan Opera House in June 2015 as Juliet in the William Shakespeare written story Romeo & Juliet. Over her years she has helped in different foundations, endorsements, organizations etc. To help give back to classical ballet and young people that has a dream of performing as a dancer. Fasting forward into time, in the Dance Magazine article Misty Copeland on Her latest Book, Launching Her Foundation and Motherhood, by Lydia Murray, she claims, “Misty Copeland is entering a new era. She plans to return to the stage with American Theatre for the first time nearly four years this fall (2023), after a pandemic-induced performance hiatus and the birth of her son Jackson last spring (2022).” Even when Mrs. Copeland was offstage, she was still able to give back to her community and be an amazing dancer without having to give a great grand performance.
